STALKERS

When someone famous is stalked, there may be much publicity. But it must be remembered that it is not only stars who are stalked. Anyone can be the target of a stalker. Stalking is one of the greatest mental strains and physical dangers that someone can face. Stalkers find out where you live and work, discover what what kind of car you drive, and learn your daily routine. They determine the identities of your family members and friends, your hobbies and activities, your favorite places to shop and eat, and so on, in order to follow your every movement. With this information they track you, appearing at your home, at work or school, the grocery store or movie theater... anywhere. The stalker is obsessed, and the situation may persist for months or even years.

The danger from a stalker is not always obvious. While a stalker certainly represents an annoyance, there is much more at risk than just your convenience or privacy. Your life and safety are threatened, and your loved ones also share the danger. A stalker develops an extreme obsession, so even if you are married or otherwise attached, the stalker is not deterred. Your partner faces much danger since the stalker may try to eliminate those people you are intimate with, seeing them as obstacles to their desired relationship with you. Alarmism is not our goal here, but appropriate caution must be exercised at all times in these situations. Crimes commonly committed by stalkers include assault, rape, breaking and entering, theft, and murder. Law enforcement officials cannot provide you round-the-clock personal protection for any extended period of time.

Law enforcement should immediately be alerted concerning any stalker. Most states--including Ohio--have stalker laws. But  these laws are only useful if the stalker is identified, adequate evidence against them collected, and they are arrested and prosecuted. Stalkers are hard to catch since they usually leave very little tangible evidence and are often quite skilled at avoiding the police.

The only way to stop a stalker is for someone who understands their methods to confront and confound them. There are several essential elements to this process:

          * Identity of the stalker must be positively ascertained.

          * A preponderance of evidence must be collected in preparation for prosecution.

          * Movement of the stalker must be monitored in order to prevent direct contact with you.

          * Your personal security must be maintained throughout the ordeal.

          * Every effort must be made to assure that all officials respond to the situation appropriately.

If you are the target of a stalker you must take immediate action. Call our firm as soon as possible in order to set in motion the process that will protect your safety, preserve your sanity, and bring an end to torment at the hands of a stalker.
